The Foundation is dedicated to making a tangible impact on credit unions and their members across New York State. Through strategic use of funds and resources, the Foundation has been instrumental in facilitating a range of projects that enhance financial accessibility, literacy, and member services. Our commitment to the "people helping people" philosophy is evident in every initiative we support. Our mission goes beyond funding - it's about creating a lasting impact that resonates throughout communities, proving that together, we can make a substantial difference in the lives of New Yorkers.
A prime example of our impact is seen in the initiative undertaken by High Point Federal Credit Union to enhance community safety. Through the acquisition of Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) for each of their locations and comprehensive CPR/AED training for staff, the credit union has significantly bolstered emergency preparedness, directly benefiting members and employees alike.
“High Point Federal Credit Union’s Public Access Defibrillation Program is now fully in place and being monitored appropriately. On behalf of High Point Federal Credit Union, I would like to offer our appreciation for all the assistance provided by New York Credit Union Foundation.”
In collaboration with Cooperative Federal Credit Union, the 'Mad City Money' program offered invaluable financial literacy education to 'unbanked' and 'underbanked' high school students in Syracuse. This hands-on approach to teaching budgeting and financial planning skills has laid a solid foundation for the financial future of 74 students, showcasing the power of targeted educational initiatives.
This innovative program has provided critical support for members who may be low on cash. The grant helped Encompass Niagara FCU allow members to enter a negative balance in their accounts with fewer fees. This means that they can pay important charges such as bills on time without fear of expensive overdraft fees. A testament to the program's success is the feedback from members like Susie S., who stated, "Sometimes I forget when my automatic payments are coming out and Courtesy Pay has really pulled through for me."
A visible enhancement to the credit union's operations, the new outdoor electric sign funded by an IMPACT Grant has significantly improved member communication and visibility to potential members. Janelle Acenowr, Marketing Specialist, remarked, "We are thrilled to have a new sign! It has certainly helped us connect with our current members and draws in potential members."
